Converse Mourns the Loss of Dr. Jack Bowman

Converse is saddened to learn of the passing of Dr. Jack Walter Bowman on December 19, 2024. Dr. Bowman served as Dean of the Petrie School of Music at Converse from 1995 to 2001, following his appointment by then-president Dr. Sandra Thomas. Our hearts go out to Bowman’s family and friends as they mourn this loss.

Originally from Ohio, Bowman earned his bachelor’s degree in musical arts from Ohio Wesleyan University and then attended the University of Michigan, where he completed master’s and doctoral degrees. 

Throughout his career in music, Bowman held positions at universities and churches in Michigan, Oklahoma, Illinois, South Carolina, Minnesota, Connecticut, and Istanbul, Turkey. He conducted orchestras and choral ensembles in Hungary, Austria, Russia, France, Italy, Turkey, Germany, and the Bahamas.

A memorial service will be held at Mayflower Congregational UCC Church in Oklahoma City on February 15, 2025, at 3 p.m. Bowman’s full obituary and service information can be found here.
